BEHAVIOR PROFILES
You are a Private Eye if…
You are precise, exact, focused, detailed, neat, systematic, polite, logical, professional, open-minded and slow paced characters. You are the most analytical, compliant and methodical of the four characters. Private Eyes are driven by an internal need for perfection and want clear instructions about what is expected of them. Their motto is “Tell me how you want it done and I’ll do it.” They are very task oriented and once they are clear about what is expected, they become very self-directed. Unlike Action Heroes who seek control over others, they prefer to work alone. They pride themselves on being informed, pouring through information and analyzing data prior to making any type of decision. Because The Private Eyes are introverted and prefer to work alone, they can be seen as aloof, critical and antisocial. Because The Private Eyes need more details and information than the other three characters before being able to make a decision, they also can be seen as missing the big picture, fearful, risk-averse and resistant to change.
Your value in business
- You are objective and open to new information.
- Very methodical and process driven.
- You are quality driven. Your customers will be amazed at your level of conscientiousness and pride of service. They will have a hard time finding a business which cares about each transaction the way you do.
- You function well within a structured environment. You will follow the franchise system, even if you are not in total agreement with the structure or system. You adapt well. No one has probably ever said about you, “You know that (insert your name), he/she is always bucking the system!”
- You have great listening skills and you remember details. You are a genius with detail. You categorize everything like the library’s Dewey Decimal System and know where everything is.
- You seem to know everything about everything. And what you don’t know, you know where to go to find out.
- You will find holes in any system, and have the uncanny ability to spot what is missing. You are brilliant at creating processes and procedures that plug these holes.
- You are diplomatic. You walk and speak softly.
- You are highly analytical and an Einstein with numbers.
- You are very persistent, consistent and people can count on you to do what you say you are going to do by when you said you were going to do it.
- You work at a steady pace and are self-directed.
- Will gather information and make data-based decisions.
What will kill you if you aren’t careful
- You will struggle with many of the same issues as The Faithful Sidekick, so refer back to their list. Additionally,
- You prefer to be alone. Your ideal franchise business would be “light house keeper,” but they don’t have one. Being alone means you are the business. If you aren’t working, you aren’t getting paid. And when you are working delivering a product or service, it means you aren’t marketing for new customers. By your nature, you resist building a team.
- You also struggle with multi-tasking. You like to do one thing at a time and complete tasks before you start the next one. As we said with the Sidekick, small businesses are typically not linear and everyday new stuff happens. You have to be able to change your daily action plan on the fly, which doesn’t play into your strengths.
- You struggle with fear. You have to learn how to walk with fear as a companion much in the same way a recovering alcoholic walks with urges to drink but doesn’t act on them. You will need to learn not to make fear mean anything or allow it to stop you from plowing forward.
- You need time alone to download. You may find it hard to download during the day.
- You can get so caught up in the details, you miss the big picture. You can lose sight of what the details add up to and what the details mean.
- Because you are a perfectionist, you can spend too much time on a given transaction. You need to learn what is “good enough to satisfy the customer” rather than always trying to achieve inner perfection. Once you have the quality required to satisfy the customer, move on. It is better to high volume and excellent than low volume and perfect.
- You may be seen as aloof, anti-social, and difficult to do business with.
